(Above) I call this sculpture "Tear Drop" I have been on this on again - off again studies of 1/2 faces. Taking a simplistic approach to the faces. Very simple in design but it is a serious study to expression in a crude fashion. While studying art in 1986-87 I was influence by the Local Artist in Portland, Oregon. I was serious "old school" I felt that you had to have a very strong background in technical skills. My opinion was to take an artist seriously they must have a technical background that shows they have developed as a artist before deconstructing the skills.  The happening thing in Portland in the eighties and early nineties was shock art and minimal technical skills. Bottom line, I digressed and played, had fun and created some whimsical art work.

(Right) Half Face hand carved in Oregon Black Walnut (the picture is close to the actual size) The wood is only 3/16 of an inch thick and 3 1/4 inches high. Hand finished with the shine from natural oils of being handled over the last five years. I finally titled it "Big Eyed Tiki" 1999

(Below) Again a rhythm that occurs in my work for the last 35 years. Cylindrical objects in natural free-form movement. 18" high and 16" base in a tri-podial stance. This was created in the seventies and again it is fire based clay and painted in acrylic paint. I have wondered away from clay due to the restriction of the weight and mass of clay. I found it difficult to have a lighter or smaller base in order to reach a certain height.
