CherryRoot
(Above)
CherryRoot is actually a cherry tree root. I have mowed over these roots for the last 15 or so years and I had finally gotten tired of snagging the lawnmower on several of the protruding roots so I cut them out of the
ground. They set around for several years as I waited to see if one of these lawn mower obstacles would shout out to me and give me a reason not to burn it. During my lengthy medical recovery, this particular root somehow
ended up in my lap and I carved and whittled on it for about six months or more. Now it sits around the house as a different kind of obstacle!

Meerschaum Pipe

At one time I thought of smoking a pipe, so I went looking in the pipe shops for a good pipe. Well, I ended up buying a "blank" Meerschaum and started carving my idea of a face into the pipe, I actually spent
more time carving it than I did smoking in it. One day my son who was two years of age got his hands on it and broke the stem to the pipe. So it has sat on a shelf for the last twenty two years. Oh well, I quit smoking
everything anyway!

Abstract No Title

Carved out of Black Walnut, I personally fell this tree in Lebanon, Oregon in the late 70's. This is a response piece to several artist from the Portland area and their radical views in the early 90's. |

Riddle Elephant

This steatite is from Riddle, Oregon, or more commonly known as soapstone. I have stated previously about my theory of creating natural rhythm. The iridescence of these particular pieces are what attracted me. I picked
these out of a creek along the road - at my own risk due to the gold panners and their paranoia that I was going to steal their gold.
